Islamabad SP Adeel Akbar Suicide Case: Post-Mortem Report Reveals Shocking Details

In a deeply saddening development, the Islamabad Police community was shaken by the sudden and tragic death of SP (Superintendent of Police) Adeel Akbar. According to official reports, the senior officer allegedly took his own life under circumstances that have left the law enforcement fraternity and the public in disbelief. The post-mortem report, completed at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, has now brought to light crucial details that help explain what happened in this unfortunate incident.

Medical sources confirmed that SP Adeel Akbar sustained a single gunshot wound. The bullet reportedly entered from the front and exited from the back of his head, causing severe and fatal damage to his brain. The Medical Legal Officer (MLO) at PIMS completed the examination and submitted the initial findings to the police authorities. The officer’s body was later handed over to his family for burial after all formal procedures were completed.

According to investigators, SP Adeel allegedly took a service pistol from one of his colleagues before shooting himself. The news came as a shock to his fellow officers, who described him as a highly competent, disciplined, and respected officer in the Islamabad Police force. His colleagues remember him as a calm professional who was always committed to his duties and passionate about serving the nation.

Hailing from Gujrat, SP Adeel Akbar was among the top performers of the 46th Common batch of the Central Superior Services (CSS) — one of Pakistan’s most competitive civil service examinations. His academic excellence and leadership skills earned him admiration from peers and seniors alike. He was also a devoted father to a young daughter, making this tragedy even more heartbreaking for his family and friends.

The funeral prayers for SP Adeel were held at the Islamabad Police Lines, attended by senior officials, fellow officers, and members of the public. The atmosphere was somber, as tributes poured in for a promising officer whose life ended far too soon.

Authorities have stated that while the post-mortem confirms death due to a bullet injury to the brain, further investigation will continue to determine the underlying reasons that may have led to this act. Mental health concerns, work-related stress, and personal challenges are all being considered as possible contributing factors.

This tragic case has once again sparked an important conversation about mental health and emotional well-being within Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies. Experts emphasize that police officers often work under intense pressure, dealing with violence, crime, and high expectations, which can take a serious toll on mental health. The loss of SP Adeel Akbar serves as a grim reminder of why mental health awareness, counseling, and institutional support are urgently needed in the policing community.

As the investigation continues, Pakistan mourns a dedicated officer whose service, talent, and integrity will be remembered — and whose untimely death should inspire efforts to better protect those who protect us.
